On Sunday, January 16th 2011, Cornell Mills formally announced his Campaign for District 7 City Council.  The 36 yr. old Husband and Father delivered a thoughtful presentation to a crowd of 75 during his official Campaign Kickoff held at his Roxbury home. Mills detailed his experience as a business owner, home owner, foreclosure prevention specialist, former Homicide Investigator for the DA's office, Census Field Supervisor and his over 15 years of political experience working on numerous campaigns.

This formal announcement came the day after Martin Luther King’s Birthday and in many ways is symbolic of the campaign.  Dr. King’s final work “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?” was a central theme in his speech as he challenged those in attendance to take a more active role in community.  Mills has begun an aggressive grass roots campaign, heavily relying on his skills and extensive network to “Energize, Organize and Mobilize” residents of District 7 in order to address a myriad of complex issues with a focus on crime/violence, and including employment/small business, housing/foreclosure prevention and education.

Mills recognizes that this race, in light of the ouster of councilor Chuck Turner is a controversial one and may be the most watched local election in recent history. “My decision to run in this race was based on the belief that I am the best candidate to fill the current void and continue the legacy of leadership in District 7. This is a short term race with long term consequences for the voters of our community. Many will provide comment over the next 60 days but it is the residents of District 7 only who will make the choice. No one will work harder than I to convince them that I deserve their vote.”

Mills will be making multiple campaign stops throughout the district including two currently scheduled candidates forums:
January 20th, 2011 at the Roxbury YMCA sponsored by the New Democracy Coalition
February 8th, 2011 at Hibernian Hall sponsored by RoxVote

  1. I agree with the post. The making home affordable program introduced by the Obama administration set standard guidelines and eligibility requirements aimed at saving millions of home owners from the clutches of foreclosure. The making home affordable program is funded by $75 billion and it offers a unique way to modify the structure of the mortgage loan to make it more affordable on a monthly basis. This is a very big help for the Americans.
